Kansas City

In Atlanta Paul and I did a bad job of exploring near by cities early one, so this time around we vowed to change our ways.  We thought it would be fun to have one last family vacation before this baby comes and rocks our world for a bit!  Kansas City is only 3 hours away and they have a Great Wolf Lodge which is a hotel that's really fun for children.

We left Wednesday evening and arrived around 8pm.  We walked around the hotel and checked everything out and then "tried" to get the kids to bed.  Reid is just like Hayden was as a baby.  A "sleep nazi" in hotels!  He stayed wide awake until Paul went to Walmart and bought Benedryl to knock him out around 11pm.

Hayden kills me, she read the Holy Bible and set up everything on her nightstand.  She LOVES hotels.

Don't let this cute face fool you!

The next morning we went swimming at the massive in door pool.  Reid had fun going down the kiddo slides and Hayden tried out a few of the big slides with dad!

After lunch at Chic-fil-a we knew that Reid needed a nap, so Paul went back to the hotel and did some work while Reid napped and I took Hayden to the American Girl Doll Store for her first time.  She was over the moon excited.  She is fun to do activities like this with because she is so over the top in expressing her excitement.  She has been saving up money to buy something here for quite some time.  She bought a dog for her American Girl Doll Rachel and then we accessorized it a bit. Her dogs name is Peachy pup.  She also got her dolls hair done at the salon! I think we walked every inch of that store two times over.

When Reid woke up dad took him to Cabella's to look around and we met them there and went out for pizza.  We then headed back, got in costumes and went trick-or-treating at the hotel.  They were really adorable in their costumes and a crew asked if they could film and photograph them for promotional materials.  They were filming and taking pictures of Hayden in this first picture.

We also listened to story time that night and then headed to bed.  Reid went to bed better but woke up in the middle of the night and talked for an hour in a half!  The next morning we went to Science City which was AMAZING.  It's located in an old train station and it has really fun exhibits.  We spent all morning exploring it.  Reid loved the helicopter and called it an "a-pee" or "airplane"

They both loved building bikes together

And of course Reid gravitated to anything that had a ball with it.  He loved this, the air would blow the ball straight up and then he'd swat it away!

For lunch we went to Fritz's and the kids both had a fun time.  There are trains running along the ceiling delivering everyone's food.  You call your order in on a phone like the Training Table and then a train delivers it.  Reid said, "choo-choo" and "where'd go" the entire time we were there.

Fritz's was located in a mall and they also had a giant crayola store there, here is the color wheel with every crayon color!

That afternoon we traveled to see some church history sites.  We went to Independence Visitors center (where Reid slept in the car) and also so the RLDS Temple and then headed to Liberty Jail.  I had been to these places back in 2006 but it was Paul's first time.  Hayden was very reverent and quite in both places.  Reid, not so much!

We got some really yummy Mexican Food in Liberty and then headed back to the hotel for a late night swim.  We really packed it in the second day!

The next morning we drove to the Deanna Rose Farmstead and met our friends from Atlanta that now live in Kansas City.  We had a great morning with the Sugdens!  We bottle fed goats, they were crazy aggressive, they'd push each other out of the way to get a bottle and jump on you until you gave them the bottle!

Hayden got a pony ride for the first time!

Both Reid and Hayden fished for the first time.  They didn't catch anything, but Paul was bound and determined.  I took the kids to the next activity while Paul stayed behind until he caught something.  It ended up breaking the pole so he never got it out of the water!

We then headed to lunch at Oklahoma Joes which is a famous barbecue restaurant there and it did not disappoint!  So yummy!  Neither Paul and I had dinner we were still so full.  We then drove back home.  It was a nice little vacation before the baby comes and we go into survival mode for a bit!

All I Want For Christmas Is My 2 Front Teeth

Hayden has really loved the process of losing her teeth and collecting money from the tooth fairy.  She loves it so much that she is pretty diligent about wiggling her teeth to get them nice and loose.  So shortly after losing her first front tooth, she pulled out the other one too!  On October 8th she officially lost both front teeth.  She pulled it out during recess and because she lost it at school she got a special little box to bring it home in.  We were worried she was pulling teeth out prematurely, but we can already see the permanent tooth coming in behind the 2nd one she pulled out!  She looks so different and so much older!

Poor Reid Man

For the past 6 months Reid has gone through periods of time in which he is in lots of pain and unable to stand up and walk.  At first the episodes didn't last too long, but in August he did not walk for 4 days!!! Of course this was right when I broke my arm. This is when I started going to different doctors trying to find out what was wrong.  I always assumed he had gas or was constipated. But he was having normal bowel movements so we kind of ruled that out.  We thought it could be a hernia, or something like that as well.  After a few unhelpful doctors appointments and a urologist who saw nothing wrong in the groin area, we were told to go to children's ER if the symptoms returned.  I knew it was a matter of when.  October 6th at night the symptoms returned, so the next morning I waited until he had a normal bowel movement like he always does and then Paul and I took him to the children's ER.

We arrived around 10 am and didn't leave until about 5 pm, but thankfully we were blessed with doctors and nurses who listened to what we were saying, diagnosed and solved the problem!  They did a stomach x-ray which revealed that his intestinal track had several blockages.  Apparently, he had consistent bowel movements because the intestines stretched and allowed it to pass around the blockages.  So sad!  They gave him an enima which cleared out about 7 blockages in about 1 hour after the enima. They then prescribed miralax for a month!  I'm suppose to follow up with his pediatrician and see how they want to proceed at that point.

I feel so bad that he has been in pain off and on for that long!  But so glad we finally got this problem resolved and before the baby arrived.

He did not enjoy the hospital room very much, it was a long day and he just kept saying, "go, go" He especially HATED the hospital gown (but who does like those?)

We did catch one funny face as we asked him what does a cat say?

Thankful to have answers and have my happy little boy back!!!

Front Tooth

Hayden lost her first front tooth on Sunday, October 4th!  She has been obsessed with pulling it out but we kept telling her it wasn't lose enough.  So that stubborn little girl has been wiggling it non stop and Sunday afternoon she went in the bathroom and yanked it out.  She came out with a mouth full of blood and so proud of herself!

It's crazy how different she looks missing this tooth!  She is growing over night!  This is the 3rd tooth she has lost.  We'll see if she looses her other front tooth before Christmas, then we can sing, "All I want for Christmas is my 2 front teeth..."

Vala's Pumpkin Patch

Ever since we moved here we've heard a lot about Vala's and we finally got to experience it a few weeks ago.  We bought a season pass because everyone told us we'd want to go back again and again. I do have to say it is unlike any pumpkin patch I have ever seen!  The first time we went with the Chapman family and the second time we went with the Mcrary's.  We've had a great time each time!

How cool is this giant rocker at the entrance?  Reid did not appreciate it!

Reid was in heaven looking at all the tractors and trucks

And we even found a pink one for Hayden!

Watching the pig races, probably my favorite part!

Reid in the tractor pull, he was in heaven and was pretty upset when the fun ride ended!

Family Bike Ride

We plan on going back 2-3 more times before the fall season is over!

Hayden's 6th Birthday!

Hayden turned 6 years old on Wednesday, September 16th!  That morning I made one of her favorite breakfasts, German Pancakes.  After school we met the Housers at Panera Bread (per Hayden's request) and then went home to open presents and eat zucchini cake!

Hayden got an American Girl Doll spa chair, an American Girl Doll horse, and a giant craft bucket. We also let her open a few smaller gifts that morning before school.   She was much for excited about the horse than I expected!

That Friday we had a friend birthday party.  Her guests included some friends from church: Kristine Young, Cumorah & Jordan Mcrary, and Mac & Britain Chapman, from school Lexi Elliot & Lauren Seim, and even one from preschool Aubrey Borkowski.  The theme was a pajama party so everyone came dressed in jammies.  We started off with a craft: we decorated little bags to put party favors in which included nail polish (for the girls) and playing cards.  Then we had pizza for dinner and took photos at our photo booth.  Then we opened presents and ate cake.  After that they had several games of buck and bull hide and seek with dad and then settled down and watched Big Hero Six while enjoying popcorn and M&Ms.  Parties are a lot of work, but Hayden truly loved having all her friends over and I'm glad we could do something special for her before the baby comes!

At 6 years old Hayden weighs 49 pounds and is 3 ft 11 inches.  She really loves gymnastics and her music class.  She loves anything that has to do with crafts and making things.  She really likes American Girls right now and still has quite the imagination.  Hayden is great at making friends and loves playing with other kids.  Hayden is learning to read and takes Kindergarten pretty seriously!
